DARTMOUTH BY A. RALPH STEINER - WITH TWENTY-FOUR PHOTOGRAVURES
(STEINER, RALPH). Steiner, A. Ralph. Foreword By Homer Eaton Keyes. Brooklyn, NY: Printed By The Albertype Co., 1922. First Edition. 4to. 1/4 Linen Over Boards. Photography Monograph. Fair/No Jacket - As Issued. np, 24 illustrations in monochrome photogravure. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This is the beautifully printed 1922 collection of Ralph Steiner's views of the Dartmouth campus and nearby Hanover taken while he was a member of the College Camera Club. The noted American photographer's first book, "Dartmouth exhibits a hazy, Pictorialist style - especially effective in capturing the look of the New Hampshire winter. Each of these lovely images is printed in gravure on the recto only from photo-etched plates. A serviceable copy whose front and rear boards show light wear and soiling, with abrading to the tips. Internally, both hinges have cracks, and there is a previous owner's name in ink on the inside front cover. The textblock has a quarter inch margin of light dampstaining along the bottom edge throughout that in no way affects the images themselves, and the discoloration is barely noticeable once the plates begin. Otherwise, this is a tight, bright and clean example of this uncommon item. Inventory Number: 003163
