PIOTR UKLANSKI: BIALO-CZERWONA
(UKLANSKI, PIOTR). Brown, Gavin, Jacek Petruczenko & STAH Z WARTY (Stanislaw) Szukalski. New York: Gagosian Gallery, 2008. First Edition. 4to. Debossed Linen Over Boards. Artist Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 152pp, profusely illustrated in color. Designed by An Art Service. This is the charming hardbound catalogue published in conjunction with the first Gagosian Gallery solo exhibition by Polish-born, New York-based artist Piotr Uklanski. "Bialo-Czerwona" (white-red), referring to Poland's bi-colored flag, is a nationalist slogan as familiar to Poles as "Red, White, and Blue" is to Americans. Uklanski's title unites diverse works that engage typical imagery of his native Poland and play on the red/white palette. Although it is, on one level, authentically Polish, in its use of populist decorative traditions and political symbols alluding to the country's not-so-distant Communist past the exhibition is also a highly stylized performance of identity". A brand new, pristine example still in the publisher's shrinkwrap. 1-932598-72-3 Inventory Number: 016196
