WORLD GEOGRAPHIC ATLAS: A COMPOSITE OF MAN'S ENVIRONMENT
(BAYER, HERBERT). Bayer, Herbert, Editor and Designer. Chicago: The Container Corporation of America, 1953. First Edition. Folio. Gilt-Embossed Burlap. Very Good/No Jacket - As Issued. 368pp, profusely illustrated in color, foredge gilt. A classic example of twentieth century Modernist book design, the "World Geographic Atlas" was published by the Container Corporation of America in 1953 to commemorate their twenty-fifth anniversary. Issued hors commerce as a keepsake, this exquisite item was never made commercially available. Its graphs, charts and maps designed by CCA art director Herbert Bayer and his associates are still visually arresting over fifty years later. A handsome example of this lovely book itself whose gilt foredge and cover debossing are still bright. The cream colored burlap covers show some very light soiling and discoloration, while the textblock and binding are tight and without any notable flaws. Its fragile, increasingly uncommon printed cardboard slipcase is present and intact, though scratched and heavily worn and abraded - especially along the extremities - with some attendant paper loss at the joints. It has been priced accordingly. Inventory Number: 016226
