DAY OF PARIS: PHOTOGRAPHS BY ANDRE KERTESZ
(KERTESZ, ANDRE). Kertesz, Andre. George Davis, Editor. New York: J.J. Augustin, Publisher, 1945. First Edition. 8vo. Debossed Cloth. Photography Monograph. Good +./Facsimile Dust Jacket. 148pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Designed by Alexey Brodovitch and Peter Pollack. "Day of Paris" was celebrated photographer Andre Kertesz's first book to be issued in the US. Published just following the allied victory in Europe, it portrays a vital, energetic City of Light seemingly untouched by the ravages of war. A most presentable example of this classic (cited on page 200 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume I", pages 138-139 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 229 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", and pages 114-115 of "The Book of 101 Books") lacking its original dust jacket showing some light wear, soiling, and age-toning to the cloth covers along with some light foxing to the front and rear preliminaries. The publisher's missing jacket has been replaced with a handsome color facsimile reproduction. It has been priced accordingly.
