This is a 1960 typed letter signed by noted American poet and historian Carl Sandburg clarifying an inquiry regarding his authoritative autobiography of US president Abraham Lincoln. Typed in black ink on stationery bearing the imprint of Sandburg's "CONNEMARA FARMS / FLAT ROCK, NC" estate, it reads" Dear Jean: You and Gen. Edmonds checked everything and everywhere except CS hisself. Page 562 Vol. III of The War Years has chapter titled "Election Day, November 8, 1864", each alternating page across 23 pages also headed like the chapter title. Try your eyes on it. You are sweetly courteous and I sign with affectionate regard -" SIGNED "Carl Sandburg" in black ink below. It is mounted on a woven linen backing housed in a modest 11 ½ x 11" dark wooden frame faced with non-reflective glass. A most handsome example of this unique missive.
