SUGAR AND SPICE: SURPRISING AND SENSUOUS IMAGES OF WOMEN FROM THE PORTFOLIOS OF 14 OUTSTANDING CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHERS
(NEWTON, HELMUT) (SHIELDS, BROOKE). Playboy Press, Editors. Chicago: Playboy Press, 1976. First Edition. 4to. Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Erotic Photography Survey. Near Fine/Near Fine. 112pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Perhaps the most sought after of the numerous Playboy Press anthologies of erotic photography from the seventies, "Sugar and Spice" contains portfolios by James Baes, Peter Gert, Helmut Newton, William Jolitz, Stephen Anderson, Ron Mesaros, Dick Zimmerman, Antonin Kratochvil, Jeanloup Sieff, Christian Vogt, Guido Mangold, and Francois Robert and Bob Keeling. However, the primary reason one buys this book is for the two full-page photographs of naked, pre-pubescent Brooke Shields taken by Garry Gross on the set of Louis Malle's "Pretty Baby" that was notably later re-photographed by artist Richard Prince. A handsome example showing a diagonal soft crease through the upper foredge corner of the front pastedown and title page whose dust jacket bears just a tiny bit of wear. 0-87223-433-9 Inventory Number: 025097
