RICHTER: 858
(RICHTER, GERHARD). Richter, Gerhard. Edited by David Breskin. With Essays by Dave Hickey & Klaus Kertess. San Francisco: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art & The Shifting Foundation, 2002. First Edition 1/3433. Oblong Folio. Cloth in Aluminum Slipcase. Artist Monograph. Near Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 120pp, 68 color illustrations. With an Audio CD. Issued in conjunction with an exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, this lavish, oversized volume features the largest, most sumptuous, and most accurate reproductions of any Gerhard Richter work published to date. The eight abstract paintings that comprise the artist's work "858" are shown at more than half-scale, and presented unbound on heavy paper in a pocket at the back of the book - allowing readers to mix, match, and re-present the work for themselves outside the confines of the printed volume. Forty details from the paintings are also reproduced in large-format, accompanied by two essays, and poems commissioned especially for this volume by Richard Howard, Jorie Graham, Robert Hass, Ann Lauterbach, Dean Young, Brenda Hillman, James McManus, Michael Palmer, Connie Deanovich, David Breskin, Paul Hoover, Edward Hirsch, and W.S. Di Piero. Housed in a sliding aluminum slipcase, it includes an audio CD of original music by the redoubtable Bill Frisell. A most handsome example of this impressive document showing a small nick to the cloth at the foredge of the rear board. It has been priced accordingly. 0-9718610-0-5 Inventory Number: 025559
