PUNK MAGAZINE: VOLUME 1, NO. 6 - OCTOBER 1976: THE LEGEND OF NICK DETROIT - A FILM STARRING RICHARD HELL
(PUNK MAGAZINE). Holmstrom, John & Eddy "Legs" McNeil, Editors. New York: Punk Publications Inc., 1976. First Edition. 4to. Illustrated Tabloid Wrappers. Music Periodical. Fine.. 40pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. "The Legend of Nick Detroit" cover art by John Holmstrom. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Published by the precocious, preternaturally snotty John Holmstrom and "Legs" McNeil, "Punk" was the primarily New York-centric late seventies standard-bearer for the punk rock music scene. Part "Creem" wannabe, part comic book, it mixed fan adoration, eclectic illustration, and irreverent attitude to burn into a relatively short-lived, delightful mash-up of coverage of the burgeoning music scene. This special sixth installment "The Legend of Nick Detroit" takes the form of Roberta Bayley's New York Noir photo-novella starring Richard Hell as private dick Nick Detroit alongside such stalwarts of the local scene as Lenny Kaye, Robert Quine, David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, Lisa Persky, Gary Valentine, Jimmy Destry, David Johansen, Cyrinda Fox, Robert Gordon, Terry Ork, Helen Wheels, Anya Phillips, Debbie Harry, Patti Kane, Terrence Sellers, Gyda Gash, Ivan Julian, Ms. Bayley, and more. A bright, most handsome example of this amazing document. Inventory Number: 026211
