WOMANHOUSE CATALOGUE
Schapiro, Miriam & Judy Chicago, Editors. Valencia, CA: The Feminist Art Program, California Institute of the Arts, 1972. First Edition. Small 4to. Stapled Pictorial Wrappers. Exhibition Catalog. Near Fine.. np (24pp), 25 b&w illustrations. Designed by Sheila de Bretteville. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. On November 8th, 1971, twenty three artists from the Feminist Art Program at the newly relocated CalArts began a two month long transformation of a run-down house in Hollywood. That installation became the pioneering and historically significant seventies art exhibition "Womanhouse". One of the first public Feminist art projects, those artists whose work is documented here (after the fact) include Judy Chicago ("Menstruation Bathroom"), Judy Huddleston, Ann Mills, Sherry Brody, Miriam Schapiro, Beth Bachenheimer, Karen LeCoq, Robin Mitchell, Faith Wilding, Robin Weltsch, Susan Frazier, Vicki Hodgetts, Kathy Huberland, Shawnee Wollenman, Mira Schor, Robbin Schiff, Sandy Orgel, Janice Lester, Nancy Youdelman, Camille Grey, Christine Rush, and Paula Longendyke. A bright, most handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon, iconic document - pointedly designed by The Woman's Building co-founder Sheila (Levrant) de Bretteville in the form of a house - showing a tiny amount of wear and soiling.
