A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE PASADENA DOO-DAH PARADE
Apanel, Peter, Editor. Pasadena, CA: The Pasadena Doo-Dah Parade, 1982. First Edition. 4to. Stapled Illustrated Wrappers. Civic History. Near Fine.. np (28pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. Lovingly produced on a shoestring budget, this is the officially published 1982 celebration of the first five years of The Pasadena Doo-Dah Parade. Known as "the twisted sister of the Tournament of Roses Parade", the "Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade" began as a grassroots event in 1978 that immediately gained national attention for its eccentric and irreverent satire. Initially populated by local iconoclasts and Cal Tech students - a highly overlapping Venn diagram right there - it has now poked Monty Python-esque fun at it's elder and much more staid annual civic celebration for over forty years. Featuring a cover artwork by Rev. Dr. R.C. "Spike" Love, it has "lots of photos" of the earliest festivities by Maury Cohen, Michael Kundak, Walt Mancini, Joe Messinger, Mitch Mitchener, Robin Muller, and Margaret Schermerhorn. Amusingly enough, virtually all of its few paid advertisements are from breweries and beer distributors. A handsome example of this charming, exceedingly uncommon document - only a single copy fittingly enough located at The Pasadena Public Library is currently cited in OCLC WorldCat - showing just a bit of light soiling to its white covers.
