EDWARD GOREY: 1980 PROMOTIONAL POSTER FOR THE FIRST SEASON OF PBS' "MYSTERY!"
(GOREY, EDWARD). Public Broadcasting Service. NP (Boston, MA?): PBS (Public Broadcasting Service), 1980. First Edition. Elephant Folio. Printed Poster. Exhibition Poster. Fine.. One 23 x 16" sheet printed color offset recto only, 1 illustration. This is the whimsically macabre poster created by Edward Gorey to promote the very first season of the WGBH Boston-sponsored run of the PBS series "Mystery!." Hosted by jaunty film critic Gene Shalit and his moustache, the British offerings for 1980's crime-oriented spinoff of "Masterpiece Theatre" consisted of "She Fell Among Thieves", "Rumpole of the Bailey", "Rebecca", "The Racing Game", and "Sergeant Cribb." In addition to creating the animated opening and closing title sequences for each episode, Gorey produced this hors commerce item featuring a host of skeletons, a dragon, and some sleuth-y Edwardian shenanigans. A bright, most handsome example of this delightful ephemeral item. Inventory Number: 026952
