NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR 1939: POSTER COMPETITION BROCHURE
(NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR). New York World's Fair Committee. New York: New York World's Fair Committee, 1938. First Edition. 4to. Printed Folded Cardstock. Competition Brochure. Near Fine.. One 12 x 18" sheet of cardstock printed in colors recto and verso, machine folded vertically in half to make 4pp, 2 illustrations. This is the striking 1938 brochure provided to educators and administrators in the US, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to post to solicit the participation of "all students in Grade Schools, High Schools, Art Schools, Colleges and Universities" in a judged competition to create posters to promote the upcoming 1939 World's Fair. It features a striking silkscreened modernist illustration of the Statue of Liberty on the front cover, and a gatefold rendering of the Fair's proposed Trylon and Perisphere across which the competition's rules, prizes, and deadlines are printed. A remarkably bright, well-preserved example of this exceedingly uncommon item showing just a tiny split at the fold at the head of the spine along with a bit of age-toning to the rear panel perfect for the New York World's Fair completeist.
