VENUS TODAY: THE AMPUTEE MAGAZINE - VOL. 2, NO. 1
(VENUS TODAY). Fried, Charlie, Editor. Mission Hills, CA: Majestic Press, 1982. Edition Not Stated - Presumed First. 4to. Stapled Pictorial Wrappers. Disability Periodical. Very Good.. 25pp, profusely illustrated with in b&w. "Venus Today" was Californian Charie Fried's short-lived, fascinating, and very DIY periodical devoted to normalizing the world of young adult amputees. Published, edited, and dedicated to Fried's differently-abled wife Penny, this early issue features in-depth illustrated articles on Andy, Soozie, Becky, and "Venus of the Month" centerfold Monica. While there is no nudity here, this may have been the only newsstand title to appeal to the early eighties acrotomophiliac. A handsome example of this exceptionally uncommon (only a single entry for "Venus Today" is currently cited in OCLC WorldCat) periodical showing a bit of light wear and soiling to its covers with a descriptive full page subscription form laid in.
