Text in English. This combined thirty-seventh and thirty-eighth number of Teriade's legendary artistic review "Verve" is a monograph devoted solely to the work of Marc Chagall. Realized in 1960 under the direction of Teriade with the master printers Draeger and Mourlot Freres, "Drawings for the Bible" features ninety-six black and white heliogravure reproductions and twenty-four color lithographs of Chagall's old Testament imagery. A presentable example only of this spectacularly lovely and fragile item lacking its dust jacket showing cracking, abrading and some paper loss along the length of the spine as well as rubbing to the edges and tips of the boards. The first and last dozen-or-so leaves show some rippling and dampstaining due to contact with moisture, as does a portion of the foredge of the textblock. Otherwise, the interior is tight and sound, with no damage or cockling to the still bright lithographs. It has been priced accordingly.
