ANDY WARHOL: POSTER FOR A 1967 FILM SCREENING AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE AT THE TUCSON JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER - BOLDLY SIGNED BY THE ARTIST
(WARHOL, ANDY). Warhol, Andy. Tucson, AZ: Tucson Jewish Community Center, 1967. First Edition. 4to. Printed Poster. Exhibition Poster. Near Fine.. One 14 x 10 ¼" paper sheet printed black and white offset, recto only, 1 b&w illustration. This is the poster published in conjunction with a November 5th, 1967 Andy Warhol lecture and film screening at the Tucson Jewish Community Center. Warhol was in Arizona as part of a college lecture tour two months prior to shooting what turned out to be his final independent film "Lonesome Cowboys" - which featured Factory Superstars Joe Dallesandro, Viva, Eric Emerson, Taylor Mead, Louis Waldon, and Tom Hompertz, To defray costs of the trip, the always-thrifty artist scheduled a paid college Film Department appearance at nearby Arizona State University. When a similar booking did not materialize at The University of Arizona, Warhol was contacted by Tucson's Cinema I Film Society at the JCC, and an event was hastily set up. To publicize the appearance, two different posters using Warhol's portrait were quickly pasted up, printed, and posted by the Film Society members around town. A most handsome example of this near-unique item - the larger of the two - acquired directly from a Society member additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Andy Warhol" in red ink at the event across the face of the poster showing just a bit of light wear and age-toning to the white of the sheet. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.
