MARCEL DUCHAMP: ROTORELIEFS (CERCEAUX SERIE 133) - THE 1987 FACSIMILE EDITION
(DUCHAMP, MARCEL). Duchamp, Marcel. Köln, GERMANY: Gebr. Konig Postkartenverlag, 1987. Edition Not Stated - Presumed First Thus. Square 8vo. Loose Discs in a Vellum Sleeve. Facsimile Artist's Multiple. Fine./Fine. Six loose 5 ¾" cardstock discs printed color offset recto and verso housed in a printed vellum sleeve, 12 color illustrations. Text in English. Published in 1987, this is a facsimile reproduction of Marcel Duchamp's iconic artist's multiple, "Rotoreliefs." "In 1935, Marcel Duchamp published Rotoreliefs, a set of six double-sided discs meant to be spun on a turntable at 40 to 60 rpm. Duchamp and Man Ray filmed early versions of the spinning discs for the short film "Anemic Cinema." A manifestation of Duchamp’s interest in optical illusions and mechanical art, the two-dimensional Rotoreliefs create an illusion of depth when spun at the correct speed. These Rotoreliefs were produced in an edition of five hundred sets that were initially displayed and offered for sale at the Concours Lépine inventor’s fair." A brand new, most handsome example of the long unavailable 1987 Walther König re-edition in the publisher's printed vellum sleeve. Inventory Number: 027728
