This is the poster published in conjunction with a November 5th, 1967 Andy Warhol lecture and film screening at the Tucson Jewish Community Center. Warhol was in Arizona as part of a college lecture tour two months prior to shooting what turned out to be his final independent film "Lonesome Cowboys" - which featured Factory Superstars Joe Dallesandro, Viva, Eric Emerson, Taylor Mead, Louis Waldon, and Tom Hompertz, To defray costs of the trip, the always-thrifty artist scheduled a paid college Film Department appearance at nearby Arizona State University. When a similar booking did not materialize at The University of Arizona, Warhol was contacted by Tucson's Cinema I Film Society at the JCC, and an event was hastily set up. To publicize the appearance, two different posters using Warhol's portrait were quickly pasted up, printed, and posted by the Film Society members around town. A most handsome example of this near-unique item - the larger of the two - acquired directly from a Society member additionally BOLDLY SIGNED "Andy Warhol" in red ink at the event across the face of the poster showing just a bit of light wear and age-toning to the white of the sheet. This is a striking group of five vintage advertising standups produced for the pioneering late twenties, early thirties New Jersey-based electronics manufacturer Arcturus Radio Tube Corporation by Ivel Displays, Inc. of New York City as a retailer sales tool to promote their line of "Blue A-C Long Life Tubes". Vividly colored with science fiction-inspired illustrations, these claim ""Quick 7 Second Action", "More Volume", "Hum-Less Clearer Reception", "Immune to Current Changes", and more. There are four smaller placards accompanied by a larger piece depicting the rocket ship-like five pin blue tube along with the Arcturus logo. A bright, mostly well-preserved set of these vibrant, exceedingly uncommon advertisements showing some light staining, wear, scuffing, and chipping to the faces of the signage with varying degrees of foxing and dampstaining to the versos still housed in the manufacturer's perishing original cardboard shipping carton, as issued. A most handsome example of this unique album bearing the vintage Ex Libris bookplate of Charles L. Heartwell who we suspect must be the compiler into which has been laid a Fine condition copy of "Recruiting Posters Issued by the U.S. Navy Since the Declaration of War" issued in 1918 by the Press of the U.S. Navy Recruiting Bureau that features images of works by the likes of J.C. Organized by nightlife impresario Rudolf - who was running The Limbo Lounge as well as Limbo Gallery at the time - it featured works by artists showing at Art Et Industrie, Art Mart, Avenue B., B-Side, Cash Newhouse, Civilian Warfare, Frank Barducci, Fun, Gracie Mansion, Hal Bromm, Limbo, Nature Morte, New Math, Piezo Electric, PPOW, Semaphore East, Sensory Evolution, Sharpe, Steven Adams, T. Greathouse, and Vox Populi. It reproduces a 1985 painting by Huck Snyder, who surely was a participant along with David Wojnarowicz and dozens more.
