NEO RAUCH
(RAUCH, NEO). Szeeman, Harald, Daniel Birnbaum & Lynne Cooke. Maastricht, THE NETHERLANDS, & Ostfildern, GERMANY: Bonnefantenmuseum & Cantz Verlag, 2002. First Edition. 4to. Illustrated Self-Wrappers. Artist Monograph. Fine.. 144pp, 66 color illustrations. Text in German and English. This is the comprehensive catalogue published in conjunction with the noted Leipzig-based artist having received the 2002 Vincent Van Gogh Bi-Annual Award for Contemporary Art in Europe. "One of the most original artists of his generation, Neo Rauch's paintings appear disturbingly detached and yet familiar, their figures, objects, and mood seemingly borrowed from old advertising posters, dusty book jackets, and forgotten comics. Rauch's formulistic visual symbols suggest a more profound meaning, yet it is difficult to decipher their message. The tension lurking under their almost frozen surfaces, washed with dusky, sinister colors, is fueled by paradox: as vivid as the structure of the work comes across, the impression is rigid; as powerful as the strokes of broken colors are, they appear faded, from bygone times". A most handsome example. 3-7757-1243-7 Inventory Number: 017481

VARIOUSVIRGINS: DEVIATIONS IN SPACE BY JASON RHOADES - A UNIQUE ISTALLATION MANUAL HAND-ASSEMBLED BY THE ARTIST
(RHOADES, JASON). Rhoades, Jason. NP. ND (Circa 1997).: NP (Self-Published). First Edition. 8vo. Stapled Pictorial Wrappers. Artist's Book. Very Good.. np (22pp), 9 b&w illustrations + color covers. "VARIOUSVIRGINS: Deviations in Space" is a slender twenty-two page artist's book likely produced by Jason Rhoades in conjunction with his 1997 installation entitled "Deviations in Space, Various Virgins" exhibited at New York's David Zwirner Gallery. In it, the iconoclastic late Los Angeles-based artist definies a number of terms incorporating the word "version" - from "aversion" to "universion" - before elaborating upon the piece's references, background, and sculptural components. It is an intensely smart publication that reveals the work's inspiration in both Pasadena's notorious rocket propulsion pioneer-turned-Majick acolyte Jack Whiteside Parsons and the artistic practice of Franz West! As a bonus, it also reproduces Rhoades' astrological natal chart. Low-budget and chaotic like so many of his installations, this was almost certainly hand-assembled and staple-bound by Rhoades himself at his Inglewood studio using the artist's trusty Canon multi-cartridge color duplicator. A most handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon, possibly unique document showing some trivial dampstaining along the top edge of the last few pages. Inventory Number: 026501

As New/As New. 288pp, 382 color and b&w illustrations. With a chronology, exhibition history and bibliography. "George Rickey's importance to the art world is belied by the lack of literature about one of the world's most accomplished kinetic sculptors. His fascinating sculptural oeuvre spans a fifty-three-year working period (1949-2002) and is incredibly diverse. This book is concerned exclusively with the early indoor sculptures from the first twenty-five years of George Rickey's output. With three hundred and eighty-two color and black & white photographs covering the artist's early innovations, we get an intimate and complete picture of his artistic diversity. This book lays a firm foundation to an understanding of Rickey's creative intentions, and carefully categorizes the works into thirty-eight stylistically diverse chapters. Many of these works are published here for the first time". A pristine copy. 0-7643-1992-2 Inventory Number: 009649

THE ROYAL ART LODGE: ASK THE DUST - DICTIONARY OF RECEIVED IDEAS
(ROYAL ART LODGE, THE) (DZAMA, MARCEL). Baerwaldt, Wayne, Joseph R. Wolin, Michael Dumontier, Hollie Dzama, Marcel Dzama, Neil Farber, Drue Langlois & Myles Langlois. Toronto, CANADA & New York: The Power Plant & The Drawing Center, 2003. First Edition. 4to. Pictorial Wrappers. Artist Monograph. Fine.. 103pp, profusely illustrated in color. "Over a period of six years, The Royal Art Lodge members Michael Dumontier, Hollie Dzama, Marcel Dzama, Neil Farber, Drue Langlois, and Myles Langlois (along with former members Jonathan Pylypchuk and Adrian Williams), have together produced a remarkably large body of work including drawings, sculptures, videos, puppets, music, costumes and dolls. Their low-tech aesthetic and crude-yet-precise draftsmanship, combined with a perversely idiosyncratic sense of humor, have resulted in an outpouring of unforgettable hybrid creatures, absurd commentaries on the human condition, and an art of dynamic energy, whimsical charm, and expressive beauty". "Ask the Dust" is the comprehensive, most excellent catalogue issued in conjunction with the 2003 touring retrospective of works by everyone's favorite Winnipeg drawing collective. A brand new, most handsome example. 0-942324-19-6 Inventory Number: 015861
